Urban Legends

Everyone who receives email has been subjected to urban legends and encouraged to pass it along. Many people believe these stories, yet they never verify if they are really true. As librarians it is our job to help you sort through the facts from the fiction. MythBusters is a wonderful television program (we have episodes available to borrow!!), which seeks to debunk those urban legends using scientific methods. We also recommend checking out Snopes.com where you can click through catagories such as frauds and scams, risque business and even Cokelore. Looking for a book? Try “Too good to be true: the colossal book of urban legends” by Jan Harold Brunvard. Remember don’t believe everything you read – know your source!
